An Aug. 26 Newsmax article by James H. Walsh ("a former federal prosecutor and U.S. German Marshall Fund scholar") falsely claimed that a bill sponsored by Barack Obama, the Global Poverty Act, "would impose a global tax of 0.7 percent of gross national product (GNP) on the United States."
In fact, as we've repeatedly noted when Accuracy in Media promoted the claim, the Global Poverty Act has no funding mechanism, doesn't commit the U.S. to a targeted level of spending, and doesn't give the United Nations the power to impose a tax on the U.S.
